Windymile Cabin Traveller reviews
"great value!"
This Lexington VA Cabin is a wonderful place for just about any kind of traveler. Quietly tucked away yet still close enough to so many things. Cabin is clean and comfortable, although the beds are a bit lacking. Furniture is more dorm like than hotel but it still works well and you'll find just about everything you'll need. Great place for kids and pups!! The cabin is surrounded by 3 fenced acres so there is room to safely roam- but I would keep an eye on smaller dogs as they might be able to slip through. We plan to stay again and will bring our dogs next time. Can't wait to sit around the outdoor fireplace and toast some'ores! Suggestion: a shelf in the bathroom for toiletries and a mirror in the bedrooms would be nice:)Review from rudders01
"A relaxing time away from it all!"
I stayed at Windy Mile with my husband and 7 month old baby. We had a great time exploring the area and enjoyed the fantastic views from the cabin. We thouroughly agree with another review, they are some of the most beautiful views we have seen in The Shenandoah mountains. This may not be a luxury break for some, but the cabin was clean and had all we needed. The Johnston's were great hosts and we hope to be back to visit them again next time we are in the USA.-SarahT155 on 07/09/2011
"Beautiful views, relaxing and peaceful"5 of 5 stars!
The Johnston's Mountain Cabin near Lexington VA is clean and comfortable, but the views out the windows are the best--rolling hills and fields close up with a herd of cattle in the next field, and beautiful mountains in the distance. It's very quiet and peaceful, well off the beaten path.
Our dogs had a great time in the 2 fenced acres, and we enjoyed watching them. We didn't partake of many of the local attractions as we were more interested in just relaxing and this is the place
to do it! Much of our time was spent on the covered patio just enjoying the sights. We did spend one night out at Hull's drive-in theater and that was lots of fun.

An Excellent Lexington VA Cabin!
Very enjoyable stay. Everything was as advertised plus! Very clean and comfortable. It's so peaceful. David mentioned the possibility of fencing an area around the cabin which I think is a great idea! I traveled with 3 small dogs (all under 9 pounds). Definitely would go back again.-Karen on 09/16/2011
Excellent for VMI Events
We stayed at this lexington va rental cabin for a VMI graduation. It is conveniently located close to Lexington and has a stunning location with a kitchen and more space than a motel room. The hosts were great. If David had been renting Windymile prior to this spring we would have rented it for our numerous VMI trips to attend functions and visit our cadet.-dmartinezlaw on 08/08/2011
mountain getaway
20 mile southwest views of the sunset over the mountains west of Lexington, Va. Three acres fenced for the dogs with kennel services available ; outdoor fire pit with more wood than you need and a night sky with more milky way than you remember, Goshen Pass is 5 minutes away, and you can always go into Lexington VA!This Lexington VA Cottage for Rent is a great value! -t. jarvis on 03/28/2011
Relaxing!!
What a wonderful time!! We went up to WindyMile right after a 15 mile hike up at 3 ridges and man the cabin was relaxing. It is a cozy cabin with a panoramic view of the beautiful mountains of Virginia. I was there with a team of 7 and we all had a place to rest our heads and had wonderful space to eat some good meals. The owner is just as cheerful and extremely knowledgeable of the area. So take a weekend and enjoy a hike! THen rest your head at WindyMile.

Goshen Pass wedding trip
Windy Mile is a great location. It was really nice to be out in the Virginia countryside with cow and cricket sounds. The full kitchen was very helpful. It even had some condiments and spices available so we didn't have to buy the whole bottle or jar. The owner was hands-off, a positive thing for us. Overall, Windy Mile could use the following improvements: better mattresses, a ledge or counter in the bathroom to put toothbrushes, comb, etc. and more hangers. I would recommend this to anyone. My 92-year old mom even got along just fine in the cabin.

Very peaceful, quiet, relaxing
Mountain views in the distance, hills and fields surround the cabin. It couldn't be more beautiful and peaceful! Nearest neighbors are cows in the nearby field! Our three greyhounds had the time of their lives in the 2 acre fenced yard. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. We spent many hours just sitting out on the patio reading. Lexington has a lot of history but mostly we just wanted to relax so we didn't spend much time there. But we did enjoy our night out at Hull's Drive-In Theater--also pet friendly.

Breathtaking Views!
We had a fabulous stay at this mountain cabin. The cabin was very clean and maintained with a fully stocked kitchen. The nearly panoramic views of the mountains were unbelievable with beautiful evening sunsets. There is no shortage of peace and quiet with the cabin far off the main road. The owners were extremely helpful with suggestions about activities and were very knowledgeable about the area and much of its history. Natural Bridge was an easy drive and made for a nice day trip. The Maury river is very close by and we had a nice hike and picnic at the river. We will definitely be back and I would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a relaxing get away.

Amazing Views, Great Family Spot!
Windy Mile Cabin is set off the "main" road on an expansive plot of land. Sunset views are unbelievable. There is room for children to frolic, dogs to run around, and grown ups to sit and relax. The hosts, Dave and Audrey, are about as real as it gets. Friendly, down to earth, and full of knowledge about the local points of interest. The cottage is comfortable and well appointed. Book your getaway now. You won't be disappointed! -Marcus on 03/24/2011

This Lexington VA Cottage for Rent is a Great place to stay. My Dad and I enjoyed every moment plenty of places to walk nearby as well as a quick ride away. The view is exceptional while sitting around the firepit. We will be back soon.-Frank on 03/16/2011
We had a great weekend.
We found the cottage to be just as described. Beautiful mountain views in a country setting near Lexington, Virginia. Everything as expected, would recommend to friends and family.-mike on 03/15/2011
Perfect place for pet owners, scenery lovers and peace.
Our stay and our hosts were delightful. They had all the modern amenities but in a rustic atmosphere. Beautiful mountain views 360 degrees. Very comfortable and our dogs were welcomed and comfortable as well. The cabin is on the same large property with the owner's home but with significant distance as to offer privacy yet accessibility if needed.-Donelle Bowman on 03/15/2011
So peaceful for the family and dogs.
Can't say enough about the beauty and the solitude of this private mountain cabin. So cozy and pet friendly. Just close enough to lexington, and yet so tucked away in the wilderness at the same time. The perfect mountain get away for us and our pets!-Dakota on 03/15/2011
Wonderful View
The view is wonderful from the cabin. It was a very relaxing, rejuvenating and peaceful stay. I had a great time with my friends. -SG on 05/31/2011
Windymile is in an excellent country setting !
We stayed in this cabin in October, and it is a perfect setting for enjoying the changing leaves and
beautiful views. The cabin itself was cozy and comfortable, and includes everything to make yourself at home. There is a well equipped kitchen and two bedrooms for privacy. This is a great place for outdoor activity. We had a great cookout and bonfire all night.
The views of the mountains are spectacular - we just relaxed and took in all the natural beauty. I would definitely recommend staying at WindyMile Cabin. -D.Lacy on 03/30/2011
Relax and Recharge in RockBridge County Va
We sometimes yearn for the ups and downs of hills that you can't find living in coastal North Carolina. Last fall we decided to explore scenic RockBridge county Va and spent 3 nights at this Lexington VA Cabin. What a great time it was. Plenty of privacy on the Johnston farm during the stay. Beautiful sunrises to greet you every morning and a wonderful sunset every evening. All the hiking, climbing and riding you could ask for. The cabin itself was spotless and had everything you need for a short stay or a much longer one. Plenty to do in nearby Lexington and/or Charlottesville. Dave and Audrey are priceless. -Captain Bob Bauer on 03/21/2011
Family get-away
We truly enjoyed our stay at this mountain cabin. We would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from the city and relax without interruptions and take in the beauty of nature all around the area. The owners were fast at answering our questions and helpful and friendly during our stay. Our dog stayed at the kennel for a day while we visted the Natural Bridge and was well taken care of and very happy. This is a great place to stay while visiting the Natural Bridge and caverns as well as Goshen Pass. We will definately return in the future. Peaceful setting... fantastic views... very dog friendly!
We stayed at Windymile on two separate nights and were not disappointed. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed and the 2.5 acre fenced pasture was a blast for our 4 dogs to run around in and explore. The views are just amazing and there is no way you can't just relax in the peaceful setting. Definitely going back to explore more of the beautiful Goshen Pass area and eclectic city of Lexington... plus, the dogs are looking forward to barking at the cows again. -By Maria and Dave from North Bay, NY on 11/14/2011 for a stay in 11/1/2011
